Extended Reality Workshop in Nablus Explores New Frontiers in Cultural Storytelling

Nablus, Palestine – July 2025
In a powerful blend of memory and innovation, the Palestinian Center for Memory and Narrative, in collaboration with InterTech, organized a groundbreaking workshop in Nablus exploring the applications of Extended Reality (XR) in tourism, heritage preservation, and the narration of Palestinian identity.

The event highlighted how cutting-edge technologies — including Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) — can serve as transformative tools for cultural preservation and education. Participants explored innovative approaches in four key areas:

Education: Leveraging immersive technologies to strengthen national identity and enhance learning experiences.

Heritage: Revitalizing historical sites through Augmented Reality, offering interactive engagement with the past.

Tourism: Enabling time-travel-like experiences for visitors using Virtual Reality, showcasing Palestine’s rich cultural legacy.

Memory Preservation: Digitally documenting and transmitting the Palestinian narrative to future generations.

The workshop brought together a wide spectrum of institutions, experts, and cultural enthusiasts, all of whom expressed strong admiration for the showcased technologies and their potential impact.

More than just a technical demonstration, the gathering served as a call to action — advocating for the integration of innovation into cultural storytelling. As one organizer noted, “Technology is not only our future — it is also our means of preserving the past.”

The event reaffirmed the importance of presenting the Palestinian story through the tools and languages of the modern age, ensuring its resonance with younger generations and international audiences alike.
